3 Tips on how you can easily improve your organic search results today, for FREE!

As a good business owner you want to gain new clients to help you succeed in your industry. You even spent time and money making sure your company has its own website. However, having a website that isn’t search engine optimised to appear on Google’s first page is as useless as, well, a phone without any signal… No one is really able to contact
you. Sound familiar?

Here’s why:

90% of people don’t look beyond the first page of their Google search!

To put that into context…

Out of approximately 536,000 people who live here in Cornwall, around 338,000 will
regularly use Google as their primary search engine.
That’s means 304,300 of these lovely Googling Cornish folk will only look at the first page
of their search results.

Now that is a HUGE audience!

And you can guarantee that at some point, each of these people will probably need a plumber, a decorator, an electrician, a dentist, and so on. So being on the first page and being visible to such a huge audience is a real no-brainer.

But how can you get on Google’s first page, you might be wondering?

Well, that’s where the magic of SEO comes in to play..

If you’re not ready to hire a specialist to take care of this for you, don’t worry, we’ve come up with three simple ways to get you started on your journey to being discovered online.

Here are our top 3 tips on how you can improve your organic search

  1. Improve page load time
  2. Incorporate links to your social media
  3. Ensure high quality content
  4. Improve your page load time
No one likes a website that takes forever to load. We don’t like it, I’m sure you don’t like it,
and your viewers definitely don’t like it.

Aside from likes and dislikes, a slow loading website can actually be harmful for SEO for two reasons: Firstly, Google can detect slow loading pages so will naturally hold you back from rising through their ranks.

Secondly, studies have shown that 40% of people will leave a website if the page takes more than 3 seconds to load. And if your visitors aren’t engaging, this links back to reason number 1; Google detects bounce rate and decreases your from ranking higher. A quick and easy way to improve your page load time is to optimise your images. Check for things such as image quality (Google loves high quality images), but make sure that file sizes aren’t too large as they usually take longer to load.

You can also include keywords into the titles of your images, captions and image file names. This creates a relevancy link between the image and what your visitors are searching for, thereby improving your SEO.

  1. Incorporate links to your social media
Link sharing is a great way to drastically improve your SEO, from guest blogging and
infographic distribution, to your company’s social media pages.

The chance to reach a wider online audience has never been so big, with 67% of the UK’s population now on a range of social media platforms, there has never been a better time to get involved. You don’t want to miss out on your slice of the pie by not being on social media.

Once you’re set up on social, copying the links from your sites and incorporating them on your website is really easy and only takes a couple of minutes to set up by installing a social sharing plugin.

By doing this you are creating the opportunity for those who come across your website to click the link and share what they have seen.

Perhaps they have a mother in need of a local electrician, or want to share your florist services with their friend who is about to get married.. or maybe they just think you’re doing a really great job and want everyone to know!

Whatever the reason, with so many people liking and sharing on their social media profiles, you definitely want your business to be a part of this.
The best bit? It’s free and one of the simplest and quickest ways to help towards improving
your SEO.

  1. Ensure high quality content
Since Google’s Panda algorithm update in 2011, good quality content that appeals to your
    viewers is essential.

But what exactly constitutes as good content?

Well, firstly, it is a wide misconception that good content = X amount of words. More content does not always mean better content. Think quality over quantity.

There’s also easy ways to improve your existing content such as; removing or correcting broken links, cleaning up spelling and grammar mistakes, and making sure all the information you’ve provided is accurate.

Once you’ve cleaned up your existing content, have a read through it and make sure it is useful to your viewers. For example, have you included your opening hours, menus/price lists, contact information, and do you have a blog or newsletter? Having a blog is another easy way to improve your SEO because it means you can constantly update fresh content to your site. Google views frequently updated websites as more valuable to their users, so ranks them higher. Just be sure to write for your viewers
and not the search engines (e.g. Natural use of keywords and no link spamming!).

To make sure you are doing this, you can ask yourself ‘will this help my visitors/potential clients?’, and ‘how am I adding value for my visitors?’. Make sure that your content is not just there to promote, but to engage and connect with your audience.

Frequently creating new blog posts also means you can share the posts to your social media, which as we learned above, will help to drive more traffic back to your website.
